A certain mineral smelter in western China was tasked with conveying iron ore slurry under the operating conditions of high pressure, high lift, high solid content and large flow rate. Initially, canned motor pumps were planned for the transportation. However, due to problems such as long delivery cycles, high costs and poor adaptability, after conducting on-site inspections together with the supporting pump manufacturer, the smelter switched to multi-stage centrifugal pumps configured in a four-stage series connection. The mechanical seals adopted a high-pressure resistant design and were made of abrasion-resistant materials, which successfully resolved the special challenge of ore slurry conveying. Completed by the end of September, the project served as a National Day tribute project for the smelter and earned official commendation.
